Pili Hu hupili Initium Media Pili Hu is CTO of Initium Media and Director of Initium Lab. Before joining Initium, he was co-founder & CEO of HyperLab (2014-2015), social network researcher in CUHK (2011-2014), core algorithm R/D engineer in Baidu (2010-2011). He is activist and curator in open source and open data community. He co-founfded CODE4HK, the civic hacking community in Hong Kong. His major work includes data-driven analytics on public data sets, among which the Hong Kong Legislative Council voting records analysis was awarded "Best Infographics (2016)" by the Society of Publishers in Asia (SOPA). hpl1989@gmail.com Action Speaks Louder: Mining Voting Records of Hong Kong Legislative Council We analyse the 5th term of Hong Kong legislative council voting records. Using dimensionality reduction techniques, we visualise the voting patterns in 1 dimension, unveiling the "political spectrum”, which is consistent with common knowledge but gives more details uncommon to the general public. The patterns and anomalies we find attracted considerable public attention upon release.
